inMovies DVD Picks of the Week, February 2nd 2010
The major DVD releases for this week.
Zombieland
Of the 20 or so movies released last year about the post-apocalypse, "Zombieland" is one of the two or three best. Tightly paced, consistently amusing, and featuring stand-out performances from Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, and Emma Stone, "Zombieland" seems destined to develop an "Evil Dead"-like cult following. There are even a few moments where the done-to-death premise seems fresh and original.
Ratings: IMDb – 7.9/10 Metacritic: 73% Rotten Tomatoes: 89%
Love Happens
A romantic comedy which manages to be slightly more watchable than "All About Steve" but never quite reaches the level of competent mediocrity attained by "Ghosts of Girlfriends Past." Jennifer Aniston and Aaron Eckhart star.
Ratings: IMDb – 5.4/10 Metacritic: 33% Rotten Tomatoes: 18%
Amelia
A glossy, big budget, conflict-free look at the life of famed aviator Amelia Earhart. Hilary Swank delivers a first-rate performance in an otherwise third-rate film.
Ratings: IMDb – 5.6/10 Metacritic: 37% Rotten Tomatoes: 21%
Casablanca on Blu-ray
Even if you haven't already seen "Casablanca," you're probably already familiar with 90% of the dialogue. A must-own for any serious movie buff.
