The Many Collaborations of Burton and Depp

Going to see a Johnny Depp movie is like purchasing insurance with your entertainment: it’s guaranteed to be good. There’s no doubt that he’s a superlative actor, but part of his success stems from his fondness for working with quirky director Tim Burton. “To be able to do anything with Tim Burton is a real honour,” said Depp of Alice in Wonderland, the most recent Burton/Depp collaboration, and the 7th piece in this duo’s repertoire. Since 1990, their collaborations have offered satirical twists on classic fairy-tale tropes, inviting us to pause, think and dream.

Ed Wood (1994)

Depp plays the titular character in this wacky biopic about B-movie director Ed Wood. Wood was a dreamer who idolized Orson Welles but was once voted the Worst Director of All Time. From his cross-dressing to his laughably campy horror films, Ed Wood’s story is stranger than fiction, making it perfect for Depp and Burton. (credit: Touchstone Pictures)
