The Many Collaborations of Burton and Depp

Going to see a Johnny Depp movie is like purchasing insurance with your entertainment: it’s guaranteed to be good. There’s no doubt that he’s a superlative actor, but part of his success stems from his fondness for working with quirky director Tim Burton. “To be able to do anything with Tim Burton is a real honour,” said Depp of Alice in Wonderland, the most recent Burton/Depp collaboration, and the 7th piece in this duo’s repertoire. Since 1990, their collaborations have offered satirical twists on classic fairy-tale tropes, inviting us to pause, think and dream.

Sleepy Hollow (1999)

Washington Irving’s classic horror story gets the Tim Burton treatment in this eerie tale of headless horseman and mysterious decapitations. Depp is superb as Ichabod Crane, both brave and sensibly scared as he travels through misty woods to solve the mystery. (credit: Paramount Pictures)
