inMovies DVD Picks of the Week, June 22nd, 2010
'Green Zone', 'She's Out of My League', 'The Last Station', and 'Remember Me' are all out on DVD and Blu-ray this week.
Green Zone
Anyone who had the misfortune of sitting in the front row during the theatrical run of Paul Greengrass' latest exercise in shaking the camera around for no discernible reason may want to revisit the movie on DVD/Blu-ray. On a smaller screen, the shaky-cam is still distracting, but it's not distracting to the point where you can't tell what the movie is about. (As it turns out, it's about a soldier who looks and acts an awful lot like Jason Bourne who gets into Bourne-like situations while searching for WMDs in Iraq).
extra features:
-Deleted scenes with audio commentary by director Paul Greengrass and Matt Damon
-Deleted scenes without audio commentary
-Matt Damon: Ready for Action

She's Out of My League
As far as Judd Apatow knock-offs go, She's Out of My League is noticeably superior to the recent The 41 Year Old Virgin Who Knocked Up Sarah Marshall and Felt Superbad About It or the less elaborately titled but equally dismal The 18 Year Old Virgin. But compared to the real thing, it's something of a disappointment. It has all the ingredients that we've come to expect from Apatow: crude humour, unexpected doses of sentimentality, and the presence of Jay Baruchel, but director John Field Smith can't quite get it to work. Still, there are a few very funny scenes which could justify a rental.

The Last Station
Watching Christopher Plummer and Helen Mirren once again re-affirm that they are two of the best actors alive is reason enough to rent The Last Station, which - despite an occasionally meandering screenplay - easily stands among the best movies of 2009.

Remember Me
At long last, Twilight star Robert Pattinson finally proves that he's capable of doing more than just standing around and looking pale. Too bad he picked the wrong movie to do it in: The only thing at all memorable about Remember Me is the twist ending which plays a bit like Oliver Stone's World Trade Center if it were directed by M. Night Shyamalan.
