Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts to star in film adaptation of August: Osage County
February 16, 2012
Two of the most powerful and respected women in Hollywood are set to team up to star in a big screen adaptation of the Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize-winning play, August: Osage County.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Oscar-winners Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts will play mother and daughter in the film based on Tracy Letts' acclaimed play.
The story of a reunion between and estranged mother and child at their old home, August will be directed by Company Men's John Wells. Hollywood mavericks The Weinstein Company will produce.
Rumours of the pairing initially sprung up way back in 2010, but ironing out the details of the deal took longer than expected.
Roberts says in a statement released to THR that she's thrilled at the prospect of working with the Iron Lady Oscar-nominee.
"After seeing Meryl Streep's mesmerizing portrayal as Margaret Thatcher in The Iron Lady, it has me even more excited and proud to co-star with her," Roberts says.
Shooting on August: Osage County is slated to begin in the fall.
