Sean Stone, the documentary-making son of veteran Hollywood director Oliver Stone, has converted to Islam.

The Daily Mail reports that the 27-year-old, born to a Jewish father and a Christian mother, has announced his decision to convert to Islam while in Iran, where he's producing a documentary.

Stone reportedly became a Shiite Muslim on Tuesday this week, opting to henceforth be known as 'Ali.' The ceremony took place in Isfahan, Iran, where Stone recited the Shahada, a profession of faith.

"The conversion to Islam is not abandoning Christianity or Judaism, which I was born with," Stone tells French news agency Agence France-Presse. "It means I have accepted Mohammad and other prophets."

Foreign Policy reports that Stone is in Iran shooting a picture about Rumi, "a mystic poet." Earlier this month he attended an Iranian conference on Hollywood filmmaking that was reported to have included an appearance by Iranian President Ahmadinejad.

Stone is no stranger to the screen. In addition to his documentary interests, the young actor has appeared in a dozen of his father's films, including JFK, Natural Born Killers and Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps.
