Yet another disappointment is in store for fans of the Oscar's Best Original Song category.

Following the announcement that only two songs were nominated by the Academy for this year's Awards, producers of the TV broadcast have now revealed that neither nominated tune will be performed during the show.

Deadline reports that insiders claim both Fox and Disney have protested the decision. The two nominated songs are 'Real in Rio' from the Fox animated hit Rio and 'Man or Muppet' from Disney's The Muppets.

"It seems like a huge missed opportunity to me, and we certainly tried," an industry insider tells the site.

"It doesn't make sense," says another insider. "They could have so much fun with Muppets and Rio staging."

Deadline reports that the final decision on the issue hasn't been made just yet however and producers may end up changing their minds once again.

The 84th Annual Academy Awards will air live on February 26, 2012.
