Uggie, the lovable pooch who stole hearts in the Oscar-nominated French film The Artist, has won the Top Dog in a Movie award at the first annual Golden Collar Awards.

The Associated Press reports that Uggie's owner and trainer, Omar Von Muller, accepted the award on Uggie's behalf, telling the crowd Uggie is a "great performer, but he's also a great family member," adding "He sleeps with us."

Held Monday evening at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles, the show featured human actors giving trophies to the top animal performers of the year in film and television.

NCIS star Pauley Perrette and Hot in Cleveland's Wendie Malick were among the presenters.

Created by website DogNewsDaily, the awards show was broadcast live on the Hollywood Reporter website.

Other winners included the French bulldog Brigitte from Modern Family, Hercules from Pit Boss and Giggy of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.

One notable loser was Blackie, the doberman star of Martin Scorsese's Hugo. Blackie was a late entry to the competition after Scorsese personally lobbied for a nomination for the canine.
